Participating in Activities in Bungmati, Khokana, and Patan

The most electrifying day of the Kathmandu Valley Rim Tour is the first day, since you will explore historical sites and typical Newari settlements. The name “Bungmati” originates from the Newar language, and “Bunga” means a pit(Khaldo in Nepali). Atmosphere far from city pollutants. This classic village is renowned for Rato Machhindranath (a great god of rain and fertility) and wood carving, as almost all people are experts at wood carving.

A kilometer ahead from Bungmati, there is a captivating settlement of Khoka which is popular for Sikali Temple, Rudrayani in Pagoda style, built in 17th Century. While visiting this village, you will have the vibe of the medieval period, making it perfect for those who love discovering the history and  want such pilgrimage sites. Locals of Khokana, do not celebrate a national festival, “Dashain,” and worship by gathering at the Sikali temple instead of it. One of the major highlights of Khokana is the traditional mustard oil mills, made of wood.

After spending a while there, reach Patan with a thrilling drive of 25 to 30 minutes since it’s 6 kilometers from Khokana. Most of the inhabitants in Patan have followed Buddhism since ancient times. You will know the history of the most popular master craftsmen, such as Araniko, Siddhi Raj, and Abhay Raj, who were born in Patan. Explore different places like Patan Durbar Square, the Central Zoo of Kathmandu, Jawalakhel Handicraft Center, monasteries, Ashoka Stupa, etc. Finally, you will transfer to your hotel after concluding today’s journey.

Sacred Sites: Dakshinkali Temple, Swayambhunath & Pashupatinath

The major highlights of the Kathmandu Valley Rim Tour also include Dakshinkali Temple, situated in the southeast of the Kathmandu Valley within a forested gorge. The temple, which is devoted to the vivacious goddess Ma Kali, is regarded as a spiritually significant Hindu temple in Nepal. Especially on Saturday, pilgrims visit there to conduct religious ceremonies. Similarly, Pashupatinath, situated at the bank of the Bagmati River, is a popular Hindu Temple which was built in dedication to Lord Shiva. Pashupati means "lord of animals”, and people believe that one can be blessed after visiting this sacred place. When you visit there, you can see that numerous Hindus are involved in crucial cremation processes.  Every evening, many people come to the temple to observe the Aarati (fire rituals).

The breathetaking views between Chisapani and Nagarkot

The tour takes an unexpected turn on the 5th day by beginning an exhilarating hike along the quaint villages with mesmerizing vistas of the Himalayas, including Langtang, Ganesh Himal, and even Everest. The 55-window palace and Golden Gate will surprise you with the wood carving and the medieval period architecture. The Nyatpol temple is another highlight, built in dedication to the goddess Siddhi Laxmi, and is popular as the tallest temple in the Kathmandu Valley. Essential Information

What is the best time of the year for the Kathmandu Valley Rim Tour?

Every season brings something unique to the environment with both advantages and limitations. Even though the Kathmandu Valley Rim Tour is a great journey that can be done year-round, we advise adventurers to embark on this journey during spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) due to their pleasant and stable weather with moderate temperatures. If you choose to spring for this 10 days Kathmandu Valley Rim Tour, you can enjoy walking on trails along lush forests full of rhododendrons and green hills with magnificent vistas of towering mountains such as Mt. Everest, Ganesh Himal, Langtang range, Annapurna, etc.

Autumn also creates a suitable environment for trekkers, providing dry trails for easy hiking with crystal-clear skies for captivating scenery. Since the national festivals such as Dashain, Tihar, and Chhath occur during this season, you can also celebrate these festivals by indulging in festive endurances with locals. There will be fewer chances of several challenges on the Kathmandu Valley Rim Tour than on the high-altitude Himalayan routes of Nepal. Howerver the heavy rains of Monsoon make the paths muddy and slick, making trekking more difficult. Rainfall and clouds will not let travelers enjoy the clear views of the mountain giants.

You can also venture into this 10 days Kathmandu Rim Valley Tour during the winter with proper trekking gear, but you have to face problems like poor visibility of stunning scenes in the morning. Nevertheless, if you want to enjoy the monsoon with more altitude gain on the Himalayan scapes, you can choose shadow areas in Nepal, such as Upper Mustang and the Dolpo region. Other fantastic destinations for skateboarding and snow-playing with higher elevations are the Ghorepani Poonhill Trek, Mardi Himal Trek, and  Langtang Gosainkund trek, which are more adventurous odysseys.

Do you need trekking permits for the Kathmandu Valley Rim Tour 10 days?

Depending on the Kathmandu Rim Valley Tour itinerary of Adventure Treks Nepal, you will hike from Sundarijal to Chisapani and then to Nagarkot, covering the sections of Shivapuri National Park. Therefore, travelers need to obtain a TIMS (Trekkers Information Management System) Card and a Shivapuri National Park entry permit for this enjoyable journey. The Nepal government has designated these permits to monitor and manage tourism systematically, ensuring trekkers' safety during the entire trek.

You may not need extra special permits for Dhulikhel, Namo Buddha, and others. Don’t lose your valid permits for the entire duration of your hiking, and show them at checkpoints along the way when they ask.You can get these TIM cards from the office of the Nepal Tourism Board, Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu. Likewise, at the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation in Babar Mahal, you will find the national park entry permit. Another option you can consider is to select a registered trekking agency that will help you in obtaining all the necessary permits.

Our sole objective is to bring joy to our trekkers with all our efforts. While allowing you to enjoy the Kathmandu Valley Rim Tour, we will obtain all the permit requirements on your behalf. Also, a team from Adventure Treks Nepal will help you with guide and porter arrangements to ensure your smooth and comfortable journey.

Why should you obtain Travel insurance for the Kathmandu Valley Rim Tour?

Every trekker has to obtain travel insurance who joins us for trekking. Travel insurance will serve as safeguard during the entire Kathmandu Valley Rim Tour in emergency cases although it is less strenuous. However, choose the right company that covers loss due to theft, injury, delay, inconvenience, or any other cause since the compan does not have liabilities for your loss.

Are a trekking guide and a porter necessary for the Kathmandu Valley Rim Tour?

While hiring a Nepal trekking guide and a porter is not strictly necessary for the Kathmandu Valley Rim Tour, it significantly enhances your unique experience and simplifies your journey, as they will act as your trusted guide throughout your entire journey. The trails are well-marked and more accessible for independent people. Nevertheless, having a seasoned guide with knowledge of local history, culture, customs, and dialect can assist you in discovering the facts and interesting stories behind the history, getting an opportunity to know the lifestyle of locals, and traveling to every hidden place.

They can also set up your lodging, have conversations with the local communities, and tackle the emergencies when necessary. Count on the porter if you want an adrenaline-pumping encounter without worrying about the weight of your backpack. You can pay your attention to the awe-inspiring sights, capture pictures in charming backdrops, and hike at your preferred pace.  When you reach out to local guides and porters, you help the community and its economy without trying. For numerous trekkers, the addition of a guide and porter makes for a simple but unforgettable experience with a taste of local customs. In conclusion, we advise you to hire them to keep your Kathmandu Valley Rim Tour 10 days convenient, more worthwhile, and delightful.

Therefore, trekkers will not face high acute sickness like during the Annapurna Base Camp, Manaslu Circuit, or Langtang Valley Trek. Each day tends to include approximately 5 to 6 hours of hiking through settlements of various ethnic groups, dense forests, monasteries, temples, waterfalls, small streams, and paths adorned with wildflowers along the towering Himalayas.

The trek takes you to Chisapani at an elevation of 2275m, changing in slope. However, no part of the trek is tough for most adventurers with physical and mental preparation. Because transportation is easily accessible, accommodations are more equipped with basic conveniences and a variety of food items. If the weather changes in no time, you can easily switch your path to the highway. The trek does not require any technical skills or prior experience of walking in the Himalayan terrain, allowing most tourists to walk comfortably on the trails with simple fitness, the right trekking gear, and a smart packing list.
