You will explore the lush foothills of the eastern Himalayan range in Nepal, along with beautiful Sherpa villages. Spring, autumn, and winter are the seasons to do the Pikey Peak trekking.

Meet the team of Adventure Treks Nepal at the airport. They will be there to welcome you and transfer you to the hotel. We use private vehicles during our airport transfers.

Check-in at the hotel and rest for a bit. After that, you will meet the trek guide. He will brief the route. You will then spend some time purchasing trekking essentials and exploring the bustling streets of Thamel.

You will leave Kathmandu early in the morning. We use a local jeep to drive to Dhap. You can rent a private jeep by paying extra money.

The road is smooth in the first few hours and gradually follows a curvy road along lush hills. The road is bumpy in some sections, but beautiful scenery will make up for it.

You will start trekking along the lush hills. The trail follows the Phokte Danda and leads to Sigane village. On the way, you can see stunning views of Numbur Himal.

From here, you will ascend to Jhapre settlement. The view of Everest, Numbur Himal, and many other mountains are excellent from this village. You will also explore a stupa and an old monastery here.

Leaving Jhapre, you will ascend to a grassy ride called Bhulbhule. The view of the Everest range is breathtaking from here. From Bhulbhule, the trail ascends towards the Pikey Peak Base Camp.

You will pass by rhododendron forests and Taklung Danda. This part of the trail is extremely gorgeous in the spring season. On the way, you will also see several ancient yak homes.

Start the day early with a warm cup of tea and hike to Pikey Peak. It will be a memorable day because you will see a spectacular panorama of Mt. Everest and many other mountains like Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, Makalu, Annapurna, etc.

From the Pikey Peak Base Camp, the trail gradually ascends through the mountain's west face to reach the top. As you will hike to the top of the peak, you will also see a heavenly sunrise.

After enjoying the views, you will descend to the base camp following the same route and hike down to Junbesi to spend the night. The downhill trail to Junbesi goes through a pine forest.

Wake up early in the morning and hike from Junbesi to Thupten Choling Gompa. It is a 19th-century monastery. The monastery visit will give you a glimpse of the local culture and tradition. After exploring the monastery, you will descend to Junbesi to spend the night.

Today is the last day of the trek. From Junbesi, the trail descends to Phaplu via Chiwang. You will walk on a sandy track and cross a suspension bridge. The trail goes through Beni Ghat before reaching Phaplu. The trail is beautiful. You will see stunning mountain views while hiking.

After breakfast, you will drive back to Kathmandu. It will be a scenic ride. The ride will be slightly bumpy at the start and gradually get better. Upon reaching Kathmandu, settle in your hotel. The rest of the evening is free.

Pikey Peak trek location - How to get there

Pikey Peak trek route is located in the lower part of the Everest region. The trail starts from Dhap Bazaar, which can be reached in around 7 hours drive from Kathmandu.

You can take a local jeep from Kathmandu or hire a private jeep. Another option is taking a 30-minute flight from Kathmandu to Phaplu and trekking from here.

Difficulty of Pikey Peak trek

The Pikey Peak trek difficulty is moderate. It is not as long, tiring, and challenging as other treks in Nepal. For example, the Pikey Peak trek difficulty is the same as Langtang Valley and Ghorepani Poon Hill treks.

Trekkers do not need special training to do this trek. With decent fitness, little effort, and determination, all ages of trekkers can complete the Pikey Peak trek.  

The trail follows lush hills and ridges. You will walk on rugged terrain and ascend and descend throughout the way. Previous trekking experience is not required.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance with helicopter evacuation coverage is necessary for the Pikey Peak trek. Without this coverage, we do not allow foreigners to join us on any trek in Nepal. Traveling with a well-covered insurance allows us and our guests to travel confidently and ensure their safety during unseen events.

Accommodation: lodge and homestay

Pikey Peak trek is a lesser-known route. Therefore, the trekking infrastructure is not advanced like the EBC trail. You will stay overnight in lodges or the locals' homes. The rooms will be simple and shared between two trekkers.

Be prepared to use both Western-style and squat toilets on this trek. You will get blankets and pillows. The services are not much. WiFi, charging, and hot showers may cost you extra money. 

Enjoy locally grown and organic foods

Locals mostly grow their vegetables and fruits and raise their cattle. You will eat fresh food every day. You will mostly eat staple Nepali dishes like dal bhat, fried rice, curries, veggies, chapati, momo, noodles, thukpa, thenduk, porridge, soups, stew, eggs, chicken, pancake, bread, etc.

Best season

Spring and autumn are the best seasons to do the Pikey Peak trekking. Likewise, you can also do this trek in winter (December to February). The climate is very cold in winter, but the daytime is mostly sunny and bright, offering stunning mountain views. Well, prepare for the climate, and you will be fine.

Spring (March to May) and autumn (late September to November) have the finest trekking weather and climate in the Himalayas. You will enjoy seasonal blossoms, excellent landscapes, and unobstructed mountain vistas.

The Pikey Peak trek mostly revolves around exploring the lush Himalayan foothills. Between June and August, the Pikey Peak route receives high rainfall. It makes the trail muddy, slippery, and very challenging to navigate.
