With an elevation of 2,732 meters above sea level Nagarjuna/Jamacho overlooks the Kathmandu valley allowing its travellers to have amazing view of the entire city which looks more like the concrete sea from the above. Hike to Jamacho can be quick escape into the nature very close from the Kathmandu valley. Jamacho nowdays is under the National Park concervation and is concerved by the authorities of Shivapuri-Nagarjun National Park. This hill is said to be the meditating place of Nagarjuna, a renowned Buddhist philosopher upon whom the area was named after. Once you reach at the top you will see a statue of Nagarjuna on a meditating position overlooking the entire Kathmandu Valley. Nagarjuna hill is said to be rich in spiritualuity because of which many local hike or drive up to the hill for many religious activities.
The Shivapuri Nagarjuna National Park is under the protection of Nepal army who will welcome you at the entrance of the National Park. Once you complete the entry procedure the hiking begins as goes gradually up. The trail is mostly uphill on your way up with only some part flat. After hiking for around 45 min we appear at a open space in the middle of a hill, nature’s way of providing you the resting point. The complete hiking cab be 4-5 hours long which does not includes the time spent on the top of the hill where we will enjoy our packed lunch with the view of Kathmandu Valley on the lap of Langtang and Gauri Shanker Himalayan range.
